A “derelict” South Yunderup property went up in flames in the early hours of Wednesday morning, causing an estimated $150,000 damage under “suspicious” circumstances.
A WA Police spokesman said the Arson Squad had been notified and were conducting inquiries and Pinjarra Police were managing the incident.
Department of Fire and Emergency Services were notified of “high flames” at the vacant Banksia Terrace property about 3.30am.
A neighbour said he has not seen people in the property for some time and described the house as an “old fishing shack”.
The current owner bought the property for $390,000 on October 30, 2002.
A DFES spokeswoman said the fire was contained to the property by 4.42am and extinguished by 6.42am.
She said five crews attended from Mandurah Fire and Rescue, Pinjarra Volunteer Fire and Rescue and the West Murray Bush Fire Brigade.
