Mandurah party goers welcoming the new year were ‘well-behaved’ while celebrating on Monday night, according to local police.
Mandurah Police Station officer in charge Senior Sergeant Darren Hart said he was impressed with how locals carried themselves on New Year’s Eve.
“It was really good. Everyone was well-behaved,” Senior Sergeant Hart said.
“All in all, it was a really good evening down here. A positive, happy crowd that were out to enjoy the fireworks and great weather who were consequently well behaved.”
In regards to resources, Mandurah’s top cop said the local station had put out “normal” policing numbers, which was sufficient for the volume of jobs.
Senior Sergeant Hart attributed the low number of offences to proactive policing, such as issuing a number of move on notices when party goers were behaving disorderly or suspected to.
“Early intervention by police with potential trouble makers had the desired effect and there were minimal issues,” he said.
The most significant incident on the night was a “scuffle” along the Smart Street Mall in the early hours of the morning, which was dealt with by local officers shortly afterwards.
