A memorial at the Pinjarra Massacre site is one step closer to fruition after the Murray Shire Council voted to provide in-principle support for the project.
Councillors voted unanimously in favour of providing workforce resources to assist the development of a concept plan and to consider providing financial assistance, at the November 22 meeting.
The Pinjarra Massacre Memorial Project Committee said the memorial would honour the Binjareb people killed in the 1834 massacre and promote history, heritage and culture.

Cr Steve Lee moved and Cr Geoff Black seconded the recommendation.
Cr Lee said the project had been discussed and it was a “good thing”.
“We are not committing ourselves to a particular plan at this stage,” he said.
“They are looking for support and we are willing to do that.”
Shire President David Bolt said the memorial was important.
“It is good to see it happening,” he said.
The Pinjarra Massacre Memorial Project Committee will continue to pursue opportunities for funding, for both the development of the concept plan and future works.
