The Mandurah Mustangs are a step closer to being housed in their own facilities thanks to a $65,920 state government grant.
Handed down through the McGowan government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF), the grant will go towards change rooms and storage for the club’s future home to be built at the northern end of Rushton Park.
The new facilities would see the Mustangs move out of the base they currently share with WAFL club Peel Thunder, giving them a standalone venue to call home.
The Mustangs weren’t the only Peel-based sporting organisation to receive a booster shot through the fund, with the Halls Head Bowling and Recreation Club ($25,000 for lighting) and Waroona Recreation Centre ($30,205 for women’s facilities) both being bolstered by grants.
The CSRFF has two rounds of small grants each year that open in February and July.
It also has two larger grant rounds.
Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray said the funding was vital for both regional and metropolitan areas.
“Grassroots sport is a bedrock of communities in the country and a driver of healthier, more connected lives in the city,” he said.
“This round of funding supports a diverse range of projects, from disability access, to improved playing fields, change rooms and other facilities.
“Sport and recreation can help anyone improve their physical and mental health, and the state government is proud to support important local grassroots clubs to grow participation.”
