Local boxing pair Tyler Naidoo and Lucy Robinson will end their years as state champions after each punched their way to a WA Novice Title in Perth over recent weeks.
The duo – who both train out of Fighter Fit Boxing Mandurah – put in impressive showings going undefeated on their way to their respective victories to deliver the gym’s first ever state crowns.
Naidoo powered his way through four bouts over three weeks to win his maiden championship, including back-to-back fights to end the campaign where he took a win in his final via decision.
The 21-year-old now boasts a squeaky clean 4-0 record and a 69-kilogram state title to kick off his boxing career.
“I was just really stoked,” he said.
“There were a few nerves going into the final fight and I think my opponent probably had the upper hand after the first round, so to get back into the fight and get the win was pretty awesome.”
Meanwhile Robinson, the youngest female boxer to ever fight competitively in WA, nabbed the 51-kilogram title via decision.
The 14-year-old has been boxing since the age of 11, and said she was rapt to bring a title back to her new gym.
“It was great – we had a game plan and we just stuck to that and it worked out really well,” she said.
“I was pretty excited. It took a while for the adrenaline to come down.”
The pair will now enjoy a break from competitive bouts, returning to the ring in the new year.
