A 51-year-old Halls Head man who mounted a curb in his car and hit a teenager who had trespassed on his property has been granted a spent conviction and fined $2000.
Ashley John Jardine pleaded guilty to endangering the life, health or safety of a person when he appeared in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Police prosecutor Tamara Read told the court Jardine’s two-storey home had been targeted by offenders who had forced entry and damaged items inside on a handful of occasions.

On September 27, Jardine mistook a youth trespassing on his property to be the same offender from a prior break in.
Jardine followed two boys in his car as they ran along Peel Wood Parade.
Senior Constable Read said Jardine mounted a curb and struck one of the victims at a slow speed.
Jardine’s lawyer Trent Petherick told the court his client acted out of frustration and would not be acting in a “vigilante way” again.
The boy received grazing to his elbow and shoulder.
When interviewed by police after the incident, Jardine said he wanted to apprehend them until police came and he had not meant to hit the boy with his car.

Mr Petherick said it was out of character for Jardine and applied for a spent conviction.
Magistrate Anne Longden told the court it was a bad idea for Jardine to take matters into his own hands and it was fortunate nothing more serious happened.
But, she said he had prior good character and was normally a “very responsible citizen”.
Jardine was fined $2000 was granted a spent conviction.
