A police pursuit from Falcon to the Mandurah Forum this morning ended in a dramatic arrest in the middle of the road, bringing traffic to a halt.
Mandurah Police Senior Sergeant Darren Hart said police attempted to speak with a 43-year-old Leederville man this morning at a Falcon home.
“Police tried to speak with him in his vehicle but he drove off,” he said.
Senior Sergeant Hart said a handful of police cars attempted to stop him and eventually boxed his vehicle in on Mandurah Road near the Pinjarra Road intersection, about 8.15am.
“We tried to stop the car before anybody got hurt,” he said.
“He tried to reverse out and backed into a van. There’s no damage to the police vehicle.”
The man was arrested and taken into custody for questioning.
He has been charged with evading police but his other charges at this point are not known.
Dawesville man Gareth Millard, who witnessed the incident on his way to work, said it was a “crazy moment”.
“All hell broke loose...it was crazy,” he said.
“Police cars were swerving in and out of traffic to stop the guy.
“There was a police station wagon, a paddy wagon and a highway patrol.
“Maybe 15 police officers bailed out of their vehicles to arrest him.
“I couldn't believe it happened in front of me.”
