Mandurah’s aspiring surfers picked up some strong results on the northern beaches of New South Wales as they took on some of the country’s best young talent at the Hurley BL Blast Off last week.
The event – founded by surfing legend Barton Lynch – is the largest grommets competition in the country and welcomes hundreds of up-and-comers to the northern beaches’ shores.
Mandurah’s contingent, comprising of Neco, Luxe and Sunny Higgins along with brother Macklin and Ace Flynn, showed plenty of promise as they surfed their way through the carnival.
Neco was superb on her way to placing fifth overall in the hotly contested under 8s girls division, while Macklin conjured a sixth-place finish in the under 10s boys.
Ace was a standout at the event, winning all of his heats through to the semi final of the under 8 boys, while Sunny and Luxe also surfed exceptionally well in some heavy conditions at the tail end of the competition.
