Mandurah’s budding photographers were heralded at an exhibition and awards evening last week.
John Tonkin College Year 12 photography students held the function on Wednesday, August 29 at Make Place.
Member for Mandurah David Templeman, City of Mandurah Mayor Rhys Williams and professional photographer Daniel Wilkins were in attendance as judges.
Lleana Tolentino claimed first place for her Reveal Yourself piece, with Anika Ring’s Ocean Blue finishing second and Paige Robbins’ Stacked on Blue third.
Abbie Farmer’s Realignment piece was highly commended.
College photography teacher Annette James said photography was a vital component of preserving our past and capturing feelings and emotions.
“Over the course of two years studying photography, the students have developed their skills both in the camera and post production,” she said.
“They have become proficient in the use of a DSLR camera and editing software such as Photoshop and developed an individual style with which to represent their ideas and message.
“Each student has developed an individual style of storytelling and has become an artist in their own right.
“The teachers of photography at John Tonkin College are extremely proud of their achievements and growth in the art of expression through photographs.”
