San Remo couple Georgina and Warwick Webb are looking forward to the Australasian Police and Emergency Services (AP&ES) Games, which will take place in Mandurah later this year.
Both are life members of the Mandurah Surf Life Saving Club and will be competing in a number of events at the Games.
Participants can choose between 50 different sports.
Georgina and Warwick will both be busy during the week. Georgina is playing hockey, mountain biking and maybe giving the triathlon a go.
Warwick will be focusing on water sports, competing in the swimming, surfing, ocean surf ski race as well as the triathlon.
“It’s about meeting new people, it’s about community, it’s about fun,” Georgina said.
“Both Warwick and I love to get outside into nature, and we both love the idea of keeping healthy and giving back to the community at the same time through surf lifesaving.”
The AP&ES games are held every two years in a different city in Australia or New Zealand.
Mandurah will host the 17th AP&ES Games, with 3000 participants expected to compete. The event will take place between October 28 and November 3
The games are projected to pump over $2.5 million into the WA economy, with most of that cash going to Mandurah businesses.
Many local hotels and motels are already seeing strong accommodation sales for the week of the Games.
