A man that caught and kept 61 undersized crabs from Peel Harvey Estuary was fined $3,550 this week.
Jose Buyco Larioza, 46, appeared at Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with possession of a totally protected fish.
Department of Fisheries senior officer Darren Harbord told the court Larioza was stopped by fisheries officers on March 4, 2018, near Boggy Bay.
Larioza, who had his two daughters with him, was in possession of 71 blue manna crabs, with 61 undersized.
Blue manna crabs must be a minimum of 127mm across the widest part of the shell for fishers to keep them, while there is a bag limit of 10 per person.
Mr Harbord said Larioza had 61 undersized crabs in his possession ranging from 101-125mm, with the average 113mm.
Larioza pleaded guilty and was handed a mandatory $3050 fine, with an additional $500 fine imposed by Magistrate Anne Longden. He will also have to pay $190.85 in costs.
