A Meadow Springs woman has warned op shoppers to be cautious when buying clothes after her father found a used syringe in a pair of pants she bought at George Street Salvation Army.
Ash Clarke said she bought her father Peter a pair of work pants from the store on Tuesday morning.
Ms Clarke said her father tried on the track suit pants when they arrived home, before she heard him shout from the other room.
“I could hear him yell out my name and I thought he might have hurt himself,” she said
“But when I walked in, he was holding the syringe.
“I couldn’t believe it when I saw it...I was shaking.”
Ms Clarke said she was happy her father was not pricked by the needle.
Ms Clarke said it would have been worse and a “completely different story” if her one-year-old son Malakai had found the syringe.
“If my son had found it and took the cap of or started playing with it…,” she said.
“It is scary to think what could have happened.”
Ms Clarke said the syringe was used but the needle was covered by a cap.
The pair will be meeting with the store manager on Wednesday morning to discuss the incident.
Salvation Army spokeswoman Aife O’Loughlin apologised for what had happened.
“We have a policy which involves patting down clothing and making sure there is nothing in the pockets,” she said.
“Unfortunately in this instance, we didn’t feel the item in the pocket.
“It was missed and we’re very sorry.
“We are working with the customer to find a solution for them.
“We will send out the policy again to staff members so everyone is refreshed on the process across all stores.”
