The Peel region has been selected as one of ten regions across the country to benefit from a new Coalition Government employment trial.
The trial aims to enable local organisations to design solutions to employment challenges.
Canning MP Andrew Hastie welcomed the $1 million Peel region employment trial and said the coalition was working hard to tackle unemployment in regional areas.

“We are empowering locals to help solve these complex issues as they understand better than anyone the barriers to employment their communities face,” he said.
“The most successful programs are those that are flexible and adaptable to local conditions, and allow communities to create local solutions to their own distinct needs.”
In the 10 selected regions, Employment Facilitators will work with Regional Development Australia (RDA) committees to develop local employment projects.
The $1 million fund will directly support local employment projects such as mentoring programs and the upskilling of people looking for work so that they ready for the workforce.
Peel’s Employment Facilitator Maryanne Baker – who will be based in Mandurah –will work closely with the RDA Committee to ensure the program’s objectives are met.
Mrs Baker will be responsible for linking those without jobs to employment opportunities.
“This is fantastic news for the Peel region and will mean that people looking for work will receive additional assistance whilst looking for jobs,” Hastie said.
“This program seeks to bring together all available expertise to develop good employment outcomes.”
Examples of projects that could be funded include using experienced or retired residents, and local business leaders in a mentoring program preparing job seekers for an up-coming infrastructure project work experience programs that provide local employment opportunities.
Federal Employment Minister Michaelia Cash said the funding was a targeted response to help locals overcome the challenges faced in the region.
