Halls Head’s array of goal scorers was on show when they took down a spirited Mandurah Mustangs outfit at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Luke Humphries bagged six, Ryan Storer nailed five and a string of others hit the scoreboard as the Lightning stayed in touch with the top five thanks to a 19.10 (124) to 12.10 (82) victory.
Halls Head were deadly accurate to open the game, a frustrating thought for Mandurah given they were in good touch themselves.
The Mustangs put up five goals in the opening quarter, only to be outdone by a Lightning side that nailed seven straight.
From there Halls Head was able to stem Mandurah’s flow of goals, keeping them without a major in the second term as they branched out to a 30-point lead at the long break.
Another seven-goal quarter in the third buoyed Halls Head to an unreachable 69-point lead over their hosts at the final change before Mandurah mustered a run of six goals in the final stanza.
Unfortunately for the Mustangs their late-game heroics did little to change the outcome, as Halls Head played out a 42-point win.
Humphries and Storer were exceptional putting the ball through the sticks for the Lightning, while Mathew Allen also notched a pair.
Tyson Phillips got the nod as best afield after a dominant display, while Robert Hutson also shone for Halls Head.
Mandurah’s Stuart Puls did some damage of his own on the scoreboard with four goals, while Michael Mulcahy was awarded their best.
Halls Head will look to remain in winning form when they take on a hot-to-trot Centrals line-up at home next weekend, while Mandurah faces Baldivis in a top against bottom clash.
