A former Pinjarra resident is heading back home to play pop-rock gospel tunes for the Peel region.
Jamie Harries, who has a long history and experience in the Perth music scene, said he was excited to bring his new Christian pop-rock band, 4 Piece Feed, to Potter’s House church in Mandurah.
The 56-year-old said he had played to Perth audiences of over 1000 people, four nights a week, with his old band Motors.
“It was the eighties and rare for the full house sign not to be stuck to the front door of a Motors gig,” he said.
“I was a full-time professional touring musician from the age of 17 to 24.”
Harries said the young people he has told could not believe live music in Perth was so popular.
“The main pubs were The Raffles, The Overflow, Herdsman, The Balga,” he said.
“We’d make over $10,000 a week as band.”
Harries, who now lives in Perth, said he had many connections to the Peel region and was excited to play for local audiences.
“I was born at Murray Districts Hospital and my parents actually met at the Santoy Ballroom in 1958,” he said.
“Our band played at the Peninsula Hotel regularly as I’m sure a lot of readers would remember.”
Harries said he went through a dark stage when he was younger, when he was “smoking drugs, drinking alcohol and chasing various women”.
“My friend invited me to Potter’s House Church and god demonstrated his love,” he said
“I recognized myself as a sinner, and asked god to come into my life and change me. That was 33 years ago.”
Harries said his music has not changed, but it now had a different purpose.
“I still sing songs and write songs, but the only difference is, I am sharing with people that god loves them,” he said.
“I write the direct message of what is in the bible.”
Harries said the purpose of the gig this weekend was to get the word of the church out to the region.
“Were not covering up the fact we want to share something with you,” he said.
Harries’ band 4 Piece Feed will be at The Potter House at 14 Pinjarra Road, Mandurah, on Saturday June 23 from 7.30pm.
