One Mandurah great-grandmother celebrated her 80th birthday in style when she jumped from 14,000 feet above Pinjarra.
Dawn Reynolds said she was “as cool as a cucumber” when she took the leap out of the airplane high above local farmland on May 12.
Ms Reynolds said she wouldn’t label herself as an “adrenaline junkie” but admitted she got a thrill from her skydiving experience.
Her birthday actually fell on May 5, but Ms Reynolds rescheduled the jump so her family could be there to witness it.
Revealing she has been “scared stiff of heights” for decades, Ms Reynolds’ decision to jump surprised a number of her friends.
She said even climbing up a ladder often came as a fright to her.
One close friend, Sally Chambers was so impressed by Ms Reynolds’ courage she decided to join her during the “once in a lifetime opportunity”.
Ms Reynolds got the idea to go skydiving after watching a 100-year-old do it on the news more than two years ago.
“He said it was an exhilarating experience,” she said.
“I thought ‘well if he can do it, I can do it.”
Ms Reynolds said she hadn’t made any plans for her next big milestone but promised it wouldn’t be a dull affair.
