Five rounds into the Peel Football and Netball League’s netball season and the Pinjarra Tigers continue to lead the pack after picking up their fifth straight win with a victory over Mandurah at the Murray Leisure Centre on Sunday morning.
Coming off the back of a big win over South Mandurah, the Tigers kept their form alive when they toppled the Mustangs outfit 52-39.
Hannah Storer continued to score well in the game, tallying 42 of her side’s goals.
The win sees Pinjarra remain atop the ladder as the league’s only undefeated team, making their match-up against the second-placed Waroona Demons a vital one this coming weekend.
Waroona enters the game on the back of a narrow eight-point win over Baldivis.
It was a bounce-back victory for the Demons after they suffered a shock loss to Rockingham in round four, and it was again Donnelle Wallam leading the way as she scored 54 of her side’s 63 goals.
The win keeps the Demons in touch with the top-spot Tigers, as Waroona boasts a 4-1 record.
They sit ahead of the 3-2 Rockingham line-up, who reside in third following a sizable victory over Halls Head.
The Rams more than doubled Halls Head’s score in the 51-25 victory, which helped them keep their noses in front of South Mandurah on the table with each side having collected three wins through the first five games.
The Falcons played arguably the round’s most entertaining game when they narrowly edged out Centrals in a thriller at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
Centrals came storming back into the contest but fell just short of their blue and gold counterparts, going down 46-41 in a spirited contest.
South Mandurah led by as much as 12 early on in the game, but Centrals cut the lead to just one with only minutes left.
Fortunately for the Falcons they were able to respond and take the win.
Reserves
Much like the Tigers in the league, Rockingham’s reserves were able to keep their undefeated streak kicking when they toppled Halls Head 52-24 over the weekend.
The win keeps them on top despite South Mandurah banging down the door for first place, after they took home the premiership points with a 59-34 win over Centrals.
Also sitting in the top four is Baldivis thanks to a thrilling 54-51 victory over the Demons, while Pinjarra hold third following their 56-29 result over Mandurah.
