Western Australia’s fastest drone pilots will descend on Madora Bay for the AU Drone National Qualifying Series next weekend, battling it out for a spot in the Mission Food Australia Drone Nationals to be raced at Fremantle Oval in November.
Hosted by Mandurah’s own West Coast Multirotor Club at Dorothy Coote Reserve, the top four pilots from each club will progress to the nationals.
Local racer Owen Littleton will be eyeing a high finish at the qualifiers, coming off the back of a fourth-place campaign at last year’s national event on the Gold Coast.
West Coast Multirotor Club president Terry Johnson said it was an exciting prospect for WA to host the nationals after being in Queensland for two years.
“It’s great for the club and also great for drone racing in WA, having been running the club for almost two years the scene has really started to grow,” he said.
“We were the first club in WA to have a home ground and now also the first to have two permanent home grounds, adding a second venue in Pinjarra where we can hold races and events.
“Its an exciting time, we can’t wait.”
Racing will be held at Madora Bay on Saturday, May 26.
