League leading goal kicker Brad Holmes added another eight to his season tally to lift South Mandurah over the Mustangs in an Anzac Day derby showdown at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Wednesday.
The Falcons spearhead enjoyed a big day out in front of the goals, buoying his side to a 6.16 (52) 12.11 (83) victory, their second win on the season.
South Mandurah started with the hot hand, blazing away to a 22-point lead at the end of the first.
From there they were able to maintain control of the contest, extending their buffer to 27 points at half time, and 29 at the end of the third.
Mandurah threatened to get back into the contest, but wayward kicking spoiled their hopes as the Falcons ran out victorious.
Holmes’ bag of goals raises his season tally to 24 from just four games, as he continues his time as the league’s premier forward.
Jay Walton and Michael Stevens both booted a pair of majors for the Mustangs, while Andrew Haydon and Chris Swarts were among the Falcons’ best.
The win moves South Mandurah to a 2-2 record after their first four, and sees them bounce back from a drubbing at the hands of Rockingham just four days prior to their Anzac Day clash.
Mandurah’s third straight loss sinks them to 1-3, and they’ll look to improve their record when they take on Halls Head in round 5.
South Mandurah will now enjoy an 11-day break, before squaring off with Waroona at Falcon Oval on Sunday, May 6.
