The event will be headlined by a lights display that wraps around the side of the structure, switched on by the transport minister Rita Saffioti, mayor Rhys Williams and Mandurah MP David Templeman about 7pm.
Stories and pictures that celebrate the city’s rich social history will also be incorporated into the celebration with an exhibition at the Mandurah Community Museum and guided walking tours on offer.
To align with the opening, a book has also been produced showcasing the past and present life of Mandurah’s bridge.
The book will collate photographs captured by members of the general public.
Roving performers will be situated along the foreshore to entertain attendees throughout the occasion.
The event is free and welcomes people of all ages with twilight market stalls, live music, pony rides and children’s activities ready to entertain the whole family.
Free parking will be available on Hall Park.
City of Mandurah officers have estimated the event will cost about $33,000 and will look to negotiate with the state government for assistance with this cost.
The Old Mandurah Traffic Bridge Replacement project is a joint project led by the State Government (Main Roads WA and Royalties for Regions) with support from the City of Mandurah.
