THE Peel-Harvey Estuary is now open for blue swimmer crab fishing after a two-month closure.
The seasonal crabbing closure in the estuary from September 1 to October 31 for both recreational and commercial fishers helps to manage the state of stocks.
Fishers are reminded the minimum legal size for blue swimmer crabs is 127mm across the widest part of the shell with a limit of 10 crabs per person per day.
When fishing for crabs using a powered boat at least one person on the boat needs a Recreational Fishing from Boat Licence (RFBL).
With one RFBL there is a limit of 10 crabs per boat per day and with two or more RFBLs there is a limit of 20 crabs per boat per day.
