Mandurah sport fans took to Twitter to vent their public transport frustration after the first Perth Stadium cricket match on Sunday.
Bronte Morgan tweeted to WA Premier Mark McGowan and said the cost was an issue for her.
“Caught the train and bus to Mandurah thinking it would be cheap option,” she said.
“Over $17 dollar round trip.... absolutely ridiculous. Sorry environment but I can't afford public transport.”
In a similar statement, Mark Amara Warner said the service disadvantaged “country people” and said he would resort to driving in the future.
However, some Mandurah residents disagreed and said with some planning, public transport was the way to go.
“No it was all good,” Vikas Rewat tweeted to Transperth. “We travelled with kids from Elizabeth Quay towards Mandurah and could get onto the first train and the platforms were well managed.”
Bridie Jenner said there were “loads of different bus routes available and hundreds of buses” to and from Mandurah.
Prior to the Big Bash on Thursday, Transperth have warned Mandurah passengers to plan ahead in order to avoid wait-times and queues.
“Joondalup and Mandurah line timetabled services may appear busier because some train services will be reduced from six-car to three-car trains,” a Transperth statement said.
“Both cricket fans and regular Transperth commuters will need to plan their journeys and allow plenty of extra time for travel in both directions.
“It may take 90 minutes to two-hours to leave the stadium precinct.”
Previously, residents could catch a train from Mandurah Station direct to Subiaco Oval, but now sport goers have to get the train to Perth Station and get a separate shuttle to the stadium.
Public Transport Authority spokesperson David Hynes said Mandurah passengers would have more transport choices when the Thornlie-Cockburn Link was complete.
The 14.5 kilometre extension to link Thornlie and Cockburn Central stations would be Perth's first east-west rail connection.
He said the line was currently in the planning stages and construction was planned to start in 2019.
