Western Power have attributed the mass power outage, that left thousands of residents in darkness on Thursday night, to a faulty underground cable.

A Western Power emergency response crew responded to the outage about 9pm.
“The response crew was able to identify the cause as an underground cable fault that was feeding power onto overhead powerlines and confirm the area was safe,” a Western Power spokesman said.
About 4,700 customers were affected by the outage.

“Once it was safe to do so our network operations team commenced redirecting power from the grid, around the affected cable, to restore power to homes and businesses in the area,” he said.
“A specialised underground fault team will be brought in to repair the fault and this work is not expected to affect power supply to customers.”
This restoration was completed shortly before midnight.
