More than 300 eager triathletes from around the state will flock to Halls Head this Sunday, November 26 with the Mandurah Triathlon Club set to host the Peninsula Lawyers State Interclub Championship.
A total 12 clubs will be represented in the event, which will see competitors test their fitness with a 750m swim, 22km cycle and 5km run.
Mandurah Triathlon Club president Ian Crane said there was a buzz of excitement around the club as they prepare for the biggest event on their season calendar.
“It’s certainly something we really look to forward to every year,” he said.
“It’s really the only chance people have to represent their club and take on triathletes from other clubs, which brings out a bit of a competitive edge.
“To have over 300 competitors in the race is going to make it a very exciting one too.”
Last year saw Perth-based clubs Exceed and Break Your Limits sitting atop the field, but Mandurah is hoping to shine on their home stretch this year.
“I think we’ve got a good shot to be among the top three,” Crane said.
“It’s a competitive event so it’s always quite close, but we definitely want to be one of the better-performing clubs.”
The race will be held at the Old Yacht Club on Mary Street, and caters to all ages above 14-years-old.
Registrations will be taken from 6.15am, with a race start scheduled for 7.30am.
The following roads will be closed for the event;
- Mary Street between the intersection of Leighton Road and Halls Head Parade
- Leighton Road from Halls Head Parade to Janis Street
- Halls Head Parade to Janis Street
- Janis Street to Clipper Way
- Mclarty Road from Clipper Way to Peelwood Parade
