A chef who stole more than $7000 from the Mandurah business where he was employed was ordered to complete 60 hours of community work on Friday.
Danny Paul Carr, 30, faced Mandurah Magistrates Court for sentencing on 12 stealing as a servant charges to which he had previously pleaded guilty.
The court was told the offences happened between November, 2016 and January, 2017 at a local restaurant and involved Carr creating false invoices.
Now unemployed, Carr was described by his lawyer as being “significantly remorseful” and had already repaid $2700.
His lawyer said while someone else had also been involved in the deception, there had been insufficient evidence to prosecute another person, and Carr was willing to accept responsibility for the offences.
Magistrate Anne Longden said the offences represented a “grave breach of trust”.
“This was a terrible thing to do to people who trusted you,” she said.
As well as the community work, Carr was placed on a 12-month community-based order with program requirements.
He was ordered to repay the outstanding amount stolen from the restaurant of $4352.68.
