Local brew from Three Rivers keeps Three Summers film stars on the hop

Local craft beer outfit Three Rivers Brewing have revealed they worked hand-in-hand with Mr Elton and the film’s producers to make their Three Summers Session pale ale, which brewer Mark Rivers described as “big and hoppy”.

Brewery co-owner Trina Youchak said she approached the film’s producers with the idea after reading about the film in the Mandurah Mail.

“I asked if there could there be some opportunity for us to do a brew that could become part of the movie’s launch event,” she said.

But not only did the Three Summers brew appear at the film’s Mandurah pre-launch event, the film features the brewery’s barrels, cases of beer and logos throughout the film.

The beer itself is a feature the film, Mr Rivers said.

“Every time they’re wheeling beer around it’s got Three Rivers, and the old soaks are there propping up the bar, but they’re drinking my beer,” he said.

“It’s going to be great marketing for a little old brewery like us in cinemas all over Australia, because our cartoons are all the way through the movie.”

Mr Rivers said he sat down with Mr Elton and one of the film’s stars Rob Sheehan to put together a perfect brew to match the film.

“Ben Elton is a real beer geek as well and when he came down to stay we put a little six-pack together of mixed Three Rivers beers and had them waiting in his fridge at hotel,” he said.

“We noodled around about what the beer would be; it had to be something summery, it had to be something light, so we made it a mid-strength 3.4 per cent.

“We came up with this recipe – the trendy work these days is a session beer – a mid-strength American pale ale.”

The beer recently won a bronze in the National Craft Beer awards in Adelaide.

Mr Rivers said mid-strength beers were difficult to make well so he was pleased to have won an award in that category.

”Lining up with the worldwide launch in November, I’m guessing we’ll be brewing another big batch of it and bottling a heap of it and having it available as the movie is launched,” he said.
