Shire of Murray residents will have free access to the district’s two tips after the council decided on a range of measures to tackle illegal dumping in Murray and help locals reduce clutter.
From September 1, the transfer stations in Corio Road, Ravenswood, and Holyoake Road, Dwellingup, will be available to residents owning or renting property receiving a weekly waste service.
The new scheme replaces the current tip pass system.
Shire President Maree Reid said the initiative was introduced to give residents the opportunity to improve the general amenity of the region and reduce the financial and environmental costs of illegal dumping.
Access to the tips will be monitored by property identification passes which for eligible ratepayers were attached to their rates notices.
Residents renting a property in the Shire of Murray will be able to collect an identification pass from the Shire’s Administration Office from September 1, while residents owning or renting properties that do not receive a weekly waste service will be able to purchase a pass.
Proof of residence is required in both instances.
Transfer Station entry is restricted to household quantities only. Fees will apply for excess quantities and when identification passes are not presented.
The Shire’s Hard and Green Waste Verge Collections will continue as usual with the 2017/18 Hard Waste Collection taking place end January to early February and the first Green Waste Verge Collection of the financial year, taking place in October.
Residents who have a 240 litre recycle bin also have the option to upgrade their bin to a 360 litre recycle bin, for a one-off fee of $40 and no additional ongoing cost. An application form is available for download from the Shire’s website.
