A driver has lost his license to drive taxis after an incident in Mandurah in July 2016 when he allegedly “inappropriately touched a passenger”.
The Department of Transport (DoT) confirmed the driver’s taxi endorsement (called a T extension) was suspended in August, 2016, after they were made aware of the complaint by the taxi operator.
The driver’s taxi licence endorsement was cancelled in December, 2016, after an investigation by the Department of Transport and WA Police.
A transport department spokeswoman said all taxi drivers must be of good character and the department conducted driver suitability assessments when individuals applied for endorsements.
These checks include a review of the person’s criminal history and medical fitness.
“WA Police will inform DoT when taxi or charter vehicle drivers are charged or convicted of offences and DoT will conduct a further assessment of the driver’s ongoing suitability to drive these vehicles,” she said.
“Where there is reason to suspect that public safety may be at risk, a person’s T extension may be immediately suspended or cancelled.”
It is not known if the driver faced criminal prosecution over the incident.
