The City managed to secure funding for the project through the state government for 2018/2019, which gives officers 12 months to complete the final foreshore reserve design.
In December last year, the City of Mandurah said the concept plan for the stage two of the foreshore redevelopment included the creation of enhanced land and water playground areas, new entertainment areas, a kiosk, a cafe and toilet facilities.
It also featured additional public spaces, enhanced interaction with Mandjar Bay, and links to the new Mandurah Bridge to the south and to Mandjar Square to the north.
It’s anticipated the project would create 55 full-time jobs during the construction phase and 38 local jobs in hospitality and tourism.
“With the construction of the replacement Mandurah Bridge and eastern foreshore seawall, now visible to the community, it is considered appropriate to now invest in the foreshore plan,” a report by City of Mandurah director works and services Allan Claydon said.
The project is set to start in late July.

Mr Claydon said feedback received following the completion of the seawall replacement project had identified the need to improve lighting around the foreshore area.
“The completion of the construction of the new seawall adjacent to the eastern foreshore has been well received,” Mr Claydon wrote a the report
“However, there has been requests to enhance the lighting along Mandurah Terrace and the boardwalk edge in particular as the water background is quite dark.”
Due to a very competitive tender price for the seawall replacement project, Mr Claydon said there were funds available from the current project budget to carry out lighting improvement works.
The funds will be used to install new lighting along the boardwalk and Mandurah Terrace between Pinjarra Road and Gibson Street.
The City also recently received government funding to install 20 new CCTV cameras around the foreshore area.
