The Pinjarra Tigers added some intrigue among the Peel Football and Netball League’s top five with a thrilling two-point win over South Mandurah on Sunday.
The Tigers were forced to defend a strong start as South Mandurah stormed back after a slow first quarter to cause the closest game of the season, but Pinjarra was able to edge out a 13.7 (85) to 12.11 (83) victory.
South Mandurah sat a game clear of the Tigers prior to the game and were on a roll winning their past eight games, but the sides now share an even 8-3 win/loss record as the season begins to enter its business end.
Pinjarra now hold the league’s longest current win streak having picked up victories in their last four outings.
The win also gives the Tigers a head start on what looms as a challenging four-game stretch.
In addition to taking on the second-placed Falcons in round 11, Pinjarra will face Baldivis, Centrals and Waroona in rounds 12, 13 and 14.
That equates to Pinjarra having to play the entirety of their top-five opposition in the space of just four games.
Each of their three upcoming opponents picked up huge wins in round 11.
Baldivis toppled Mandurah with a 106-point shellacking, Centrals remained on top with a 62-point win over Halls Head and Waroona took down Rockingham to the tune of 94 points.
The Demons’ win over the Rams separates the top five from the bottom three by two games.
