Art students at John Tonkin College’s Education Support Centre were recently exposed to a new mode of art, with the Elaine and Jim Wolfensohn Gift exhibition providing plenty of fuel for thought.

The Elaine and Jim Wolfensohn Gift is a travelling exhibition of three themed suitcases – the Red Case (Myths and Rituals), the Yellow Case (Form, Space and Design) and the Blue Case (Technology) – as well as the 1888 Melbourne Cup.
All pieces, which travel together around the country to schools and other organisations, aim to make art students explore outside their boundaries and think about the forms that make art.
Students took turns with each of the pieces to explore their shape, tactile surface, design and object shapes and sizes.
They were then asked to respond to each piece with the question “Which piece makes you feel happy, and why”.
Art teacher Laura Tolomei said the exhibition was a worthwhile learning experience for the students.
