In a bid to bring mothers together and make a difference in the community, Mandurah mother of two, blogger and good Samaritan Melanie Edge has brought Babes + Picnics Australia to Mandurah.
The Babes + Picnics initiative was created in Brisbane in November 2016 by resident Lucia De Melo, who hoped to support and assist mothers in a non-judgmental environment while raising funds for local not-for-profit organisations.
Tired of having to go up to Perth for big mum gatherings, Ms Edge became WA’s fifth Babes + Picnics ambassador recently and decided to bring the initiative down to Mandurah.
“Mums are lonely,” Ms Edge said.
“I am a mum myself and having the opportunity to leave the house and meet some mums is really hard.
“The mission of Babes + Picnics is to catch up once a month to mingle, meet other mothers, make new friends, have endless laughs, create positive vibes, take heaps of photos and grow generous hearts.
“This picnics provide our mums with a safe, positive and purposeful environment to meet other mums with the possibility of making new friends.”
All while raising much-needed funds for local organisations.
At each picnic meet-up, attendees will be able to enjoy the company of fellow mums and contribute towards a different organisation each moth through a small donation.
Those who donate to the cause, will also be able to enter in a raffle to win mum products donated by local businesses.
“Ideas of contributions have been an item of their brand, a discount or a voucher,” Ms Edge said.
“The purpose of this is to help get local businesses brands out into the local community and to our mothers’ homes.”
Ms Edge’s initiative to bring Babes + Picnics to Mandurah has already met with the support of the community, with more than 240 people already being part of the Mandurah Facebook group.
Mandurah’s first Babes + Picnics will be held at Osprey Waters Reserve at 10am on Friday and will raise funds for Pat Thomas House.
The Mandurah-based organisation provides crises accommodation, advocacy and support for women and families fleeing domestic and family violence.
Interested mothers can drop by the Osprey Waters Reserve Babes + Picnics event on Friday.
