Emergency crews were called to North Dandalup on Thursday afternoon following reports of a collision between a vehicle and the Australind train.
The crash happened about 4.30pm near Railway Parade and Shanns Road.
Early reports suggest there were no major injuries, with drivers from both the vehicle and the train free from the wreckage.
Police said the train hit the bullbar and front part of the motor of a four-wheel drive, and tore part of the motor off.
The Australind, which is believed to have been heading north, was delayed.
There were no reports of injuries to passengers.
Investigations are under way.
