Brother and sister duo Oliver and Isabel Bréhaut recently competed at the Surf Life Saving WA Country States and WA States, both winning gold.
The Frederick Irwin Anglican School students said they are proud to have the opportunity to compete at the State level in Surf Life Saving, and to win gold in an event is the icing on the cake.
Oliver won gold in the Surf Race, Board Race and Board Rescue event, while also winning silver in the Ironman at Country States and a bronze State medal.
Isabel won gold in the Country States Board Rescue, and also won silver in the Surf Relay at WA States.
Oliver said his ambition is to win a medal at Aussies, which is Surf Life Saving’s national level, and the pinnacle of Surf Life Saving competition.
“Next year Aussies is being held at Scarborough in WA, and it will be my first opportunity to compete in that particular competition, which I'm really excited about,” he said.
“I believe with the support of my coach, New Zealand ironman Mark Muir, I can compete at the highest level.
“Mark has focused my training and pushed me to train harder than ever before.”
Isabel said she enjoys competitions but Surf Life Saving for her is more about spending time with her friends and learning how to be safe on the beach and in the water.
“My brother is very focused when it comes to competition. I'm happy to join in, have fun and to compete with my team mates,” she said.
“I especially love the water events.”
Oliver also won U/13 Champion Boy this season at his local club, Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club.
Both Oliver and Isabel also swim for their local swimming club, Rockingham Stingrays and have qualified for SwimmingWA's Junior State Championships being held on 7 to 9 April at HBF Stadium in Perth.
