The Parks and Wildlife Commission NT have trapped a 3.4 metre saltwater crocodile in the first gorge at Nitmiluk National Park near Katherine.
A 3.7m salty was trapped in the area only last month.
PWCNT chief wildlife ranger Tommy Nichols said this is a timely reminder to be extremely vigilant, follow safety signs and restrictions, and to be Crocwise around Territory waterways.
“This latest capture is an important reminder to Territorians to be sensible and to be Crocwise. Crocodiles are highly mobile and this is the second large saltwater crocodile that has been trapped in the same area this season.
“Saltwater crocodiles are on the move and can inhabit any waterway including freshwater systems, billabongs and low areas subject to flooding,” Mr Nichols said.
The trapping follows one unconfirmed croc sighting in the Nitmiluk Gorge, with the area closed for swimming and canoeing but open for visitors via scenic cruises and flights.
“Swimming restrictions are in place for a reason,” Mr Nichols said.
“We take the safety of Territorians and visitors very seriously, and we ask everyone to be smart, and to act sensibly around our waterways.”
