Mandurah’s new junior council dreams big

11-year-old St Damien’s Catholic School student Jordan Greaves was elected as Mandurah’s new Junior Mayor and 11-year-old Mandurah Primary School student Nehan Khan as Deputy Junior Mayor.

They both have big plans for the City.

Jordan, a young environmentalist, said she would like to change the way the City manages weeds in town by moving away from herbicides and using weed steaming.

And she would also like to provide a safe space for Mandurah’s young creatives to express themselves.

“Something that I’d add to Mandurah is an art and drama program where young people can feel a sense of place and a sense of worth to express themselves in a safe creative environment,” she said.

Jordan said she would like to pursue a career in politics when she grows up and become Australia’s Prime Minister.

“I’m excited to make a change,” she said.

Deputy Junior Mayor Kehan said he was very excited about being a junior councillor and following Jordan’s portfolio.

“Mandurah is already a great place,” he said.

“I love the fact that all my friends live here and I go to a fantastic school and I’m a junior councillor.

“I’m really excited and I think it’s going to be a great year.”

Kehan said he would like to study medicine in the future.

Jordan and Kehan will serve as Mandurah’s Junior Mayor and Deputy Junior Mayor for 12 months.
