Lines, how to vote cards and the deep purple vest of polling officers are just some of the things Aussies associate with election day, but one thing that stands out above the rest is the democracy sausage.
The humble democracy sausage has become a tradition for everyday people who flex their democratic right to vote when the election rolls around.
Unfortunately the people of Esperance have been forced to go hungry this election, as the three polling stations in town – Castletown Primary School, Esperance Senior Citizen Centre and Nulsen Primary School – won’t be holding a sausage stand, according to the Council of Australian Sausage.
Hyden or Kalgoorlie will be the closest centre that will put on the democracy sausage for voters.
The people of Esperance just want a fair shake of the sauce bottle.
