The Singleton Irwinians Cricket Club has received a boost in funding for a much needed revamp, after being awarded a CommBank Cricket Club Sponsorship.
Members of the cricket club will establish a two-year partnership with CommBank, which includes financial funding, as well as much needed cricket gear and merchandise.
Singleton Irwinians junior director and club registrar Tony King said the improved gear would go a long way for the club.
“It’s huge for us to get a boost like this. The new sets of stumps and the rest of the gear will go a long way to helping our club all the way from A-grade down to juniors,” he said.
“We don’t have the population area of some of the other clubs so funding like this is a big thing for us.”
Now in its third year, the CommBank Cricket Club Sponsorship program provides clubs with two years of funding worth $2,000 each year, along with new equipment for training and matches.
Mandurah Commonwealth Bank branch manager Andrew Pearce said the club was a worthy recipient of the sponsorship.
“It’s great to be able to help Singleton Irwinians Cricket Club because we know they do an excellent job in supporting local cricketers,” he said.
“They are clearly very worthy recipients of our sponsorship and we’re thrilled to have established a partnership with them.”
Singleton is the first side to secure a spot in the Peel Cricket Association A-grade finals, while three of their remaining sides look likely to play finals this season.
“It’s great to see our sides having on-field success and hopefully we can take home a few flags this season,” King said.
“But it’s also important to be a good club off the field so funding and equipment help like this is invaluable.”
The Irwinians will be holding a Pink Stumps Day and Ladies Day on Saturday, March 11 to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation.
