Washed out in round 15, the Peel Cricket Association is looking forward so sunny skies as it anticipates a return to action this weekend.
Three rounds remain in the season and there is much and more to be decided in terms of who plays in the finals.
Here is a look forward to round 16.
Pinjarra v Singleton
Ladder position
Pinjarra: Sixth
Singleton: First
Short story
Bit of a crunch game for Pinjarra here. They’re one win outside the top four but have to beat first or hope for Mandurah and Baldivis to lose to stay in touch. As for Singleton, their finals spot is assured, but they won’t want to take their foot off the pedal with Shoalwater Bay just one win behind them in second. Interesting game ahead with the Irwinians on the road.
Fixture
Pinjarra Turf, Saturday, 12.15pm
White Knights Baldivis v Hillman
Ladder position
Baldivis: Fourth
Hillman: Ninth
Short story
Baldivis are on the cusp of falling out of the top four, but one would think a horror collapse is the only thing that could lead to their downfall against Hillman, who are one of just two teams to have their finals hopes eliminated. If Baldivis do fall, Mandurah and Pinjarra will be hot on their heels and possibly in front of them. White Knights need a win to stay comfortable.
Fixture
Settlers Turf, Saturday, 12.15pm
Warnbro Swans v South Mandurah
Ladder position
Warnbro: Tenth
South Mandurah: Eighth
Short story
Prior to round 15’s washout, the Swans claimed their first win with an upset victory over Baldivis, and it will be interesting to see if they can carry that form on against Souths. A loss destroys South Mandurah’s slim hope of making the finals, so they will be be eyeing a momentous win, but it won’t come easy against a side that has shown more spirit over the season than their record suggests.
Fixture
Warnbro Turf, Saturday, 12.15pm
Waroona v Shoalwater Bay
Ladder position
Waroona: Third
Shoalwater Bay: Second
Short story
Now here’s a feast for local cricket fans. Both of these sides are sitting quite comfortably in the top four for now, and although Waroona will want a win a touch more than Shoalwater, a loss wouldn’t be detrimental. But this game still looms as the round’s best, and could be a preview to what we see in the finals.
Fixture
Waroona Turf, Saturday, 12.15pm
Mandurah v Halls Head
Ladder position
Mandurah: Fifth
Halls Head: Seventh
Short story
A game separates these sides, and both still have the chance of playing in the post-season, but much of their hopes depends on the outcome of this match. A Halls Head loss would almost certainly be the end of their season’s ambitions, while a Mandurah win could potentially lift them to the top four.
Fixture
Meadow Springs Turf, Saturday, 12.15pm
