Mandurah’s Prototype Festival has been dealt a cruel blow, with vandals targeting a popular installation.
Ricky Gibson’s massive fisherman in Mandjar Square has been damaged overnight, with the sculpture’s hands torn apart and feet ruined.
Entitled Where have all the fish gone?, Gibson’s protoype has been neck and neck with Tahnee Kelland’s Bright Brick Road, with visitors to the festival casting their votes for their favourite.
Mandurah resident Toni Gordon posted photos to a local Facebook page to illustrate the damage.
“To the utter low lives that thought trashing public art last night was fun. People wonder why we can't have nice things.. well people this is why.. we will be asking businesses to go through their CCTVs to see if we can put a face to this disrespectful act,” she wrote.
Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
