Halls Head resident Karen Sanders is sick of pulling up pavers.
Less than a metre from her driveway on Peelwood Parade, two established Casuarina trees have spread their roots, lifting bricks and causing Ms Sanders ongoing grief.
“For the last year I have been ringing and writing to council asking them to remove tree roots,” she said.
Previously, the City footed the bill of lifting the pavers, but this time around Ms Sanders had to pay, in accordance with the city’s street verge development policy.
“I wrote to the ombudsman who told me that council would not budge on their decision,” she said.
“Having no choice I had the pavers lifted up, and a trailer full of fibrous roots have been removed though there are a lot more under the pavers.”
She said it should be common sense just to remove the tree.
“Even the workers who came to cut the roots out were saying, ‘these trees have got to go,’” she said.
“The tree needs to be removed, otherwise I’m going to be continually having to have the pavers lifted up, ring them to remove the roots again, and having the pavers all put down again.”
The City did not comment on Ms Sanders’ request to remove the tree, however, their street tree policy states they do ‘not support the removal of healthy, stable and viable trees.
