Sailing action kicks off in Mandurah

Mandurah waterways were filled with dinghy sailboats last Saturday as part of an open day held by the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club.

Getting out on the water under the watchful eyes of the club’s coaches, more than 40 participants unfolded their sails for the day.

Rear Commodore Kevin Luff said it was encouraging to see a number of young adults and parents brave the water.

“Battling the elements, all age groups are catered for and the club has an abundance of club boats for the youngsters and not so young to use,” he said.

Dinghy sailing is held at the club every Saturday morning from 9am to 12pm.

Courses are available to help streamline novices, including the Tackers group which takes beginners and teaches them the basics of sailing all the way to racing, which is the ultimate aim

The club will start its summer sailing program on Monday, December 19 going through to Friday, December 23.

The first of the Tackers courses will be held the following week from Monday, December 26 to Friday, December 30.
