A 19-YEAR-old man is in a critical condition in Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital after he fell from the sixth floor of a city apartment block early on Sunday.
Police said the man is understood to have been visiting a unit in the Pinnacle Apartments on Hunter Street when he fell about 18 metres from the balcony at about 12.30am.
He is thought to have then landed on an awning, before falling to the pavement.
Paramedics attended the man and took him to John Hunter Hospital, where he remained in the intensive care unit on Sunday in a critical condition.
Police said the investigation into the cause of the man’s fall is at the “preliminary stage”, and that they are not ruling out any possible factors.
Around the time of the incident, police have been told, a witness looking out from a unit below saw a falling object and heard a “metallic banging noise”.
