The Peel Maternity and Family Practice is celebrating ten years, after husband and wife team Peter and Heather Kell started it up in 2006.
Mr Kell trained in public hospital systems and found the public maternity system very impersonal, while the specialist model was elitist and unafforable for many.
He had a desire to offer a more personal service believing that everyone has a right to collaborative care from conception, through antenatal care, delivery and then postnatal, for the whole family.
“I certainly wasn't thinking this scale at all, we started in the little three bedroom house on Murdoch Drive with two midwives,” Mr Kell said.
“Now we have seven admin staff, seven doctors, five midwives, a practice nurse, physiotherapist and a psychologist... We have delivered around 7000 babies in these 10 years.”
The team will celebrate ten years by opening its doors and car park to past and current patients on Saturday November 12 from 10am-3pm.
There will be face painting, an animal farm and live music, a sausage sizzle, live entertainment, as well as a group photo shoot of all the children born over the past ten years.
The Tree of Life Café next door, managed and run by Heather, will be open all day selling delicious crêpes and coffees.
“I am most looking forward to seeing lots of babies and their mums and dads that we have not seen for a long time,” Mr Kell said.
