Mandurah Detectives have charged a man over an indecent assault at a short-stay accommodation complex in Mandurah on Saturday afternoon, involving an elderly woman.
About 12:45pm a woman in her late 70s was inside her room at the Mandurah Terrace complex when a man entered her room.
Police allege the man indecently assaulted the woman and committed an indecent act in front of her.
He then left the room.
Hotel management were advised of the incident a short time later and the matter was reported to police.
A description of the offender was circulated to local police and about two hours later, a person matching the accused’s description was involved in an incident on Rio Grande Avenue, Greenfields.
The man, who was armed with a baseball bat, was acting in an erratic manner and struck a car.
The man was arrested after a short foot chase and was handed over to Mandurah Detectives.
Police will also allege the man committed a further indecent act while in custody at the Mandurah Police Station.
A 28 year old man from Greenfields has been charged with:
- Aggravated Indecent Assault (Mandurah)
- Burglary and Commit Offence in Dwelling (Mandurah)
- Carried an Article with Intent to Cause Fear (Greenfields)
- Disorderly Behaviour in a Police Station or Lockup (Mandurah Police Station)
The accused was refused bail and was due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday.
