Mandurah council’s Tree Day is planned for Sunday June 26, but the community can also register for Schools Tree Day on Friday July 29 or National Tree Day on Sunday July 31.
The Mandurah Tree Day will be held at Marlee Reserve on Marlee Road in Parklands, a significant site because a large part of it was the first piece of land the city purchased as part of the Bushland Buyback Strategy.
Mayor Marina Vergone said the local tree day event was a great chance for the Mandurah community to enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and reconnect with nature.
“[It’s] an important day for our community, as it gives people the opportunity to do great things for the local environment by acting now for our future,” Ms Vergone said.
“A lot of us are spending more and more time inside and in front of a screen disconnected from the natural world, but research shows there are real health and well being benefits associated with spending time outside and in contact with nature.”
Last year over 1.2 million native trees, shrubs and edibles helped to green otherwise grey areas.
Those who register their own National Tree Day site before May 31 could with a vertical garden worth $500 from Garden Beet.
Sites can include parks, schools, workplaces, a nearby sports field, or even your own back yard.
