The 22-year-old from Dawesville swam in the marathon elite swim, a new event within the usual Port to Pub and the longest open water swim in Australia, where she was the first female swimmer to finish in just over six hours (6:08:57).
Making the event even more special was the fact it was the 60th anniversary of the Port to Pub.
Weller almost didn’t swim as her skipper pulled out on Thursday and it wasn't until Friday she knew for sure that she had managed to secure another.
Weller said she used the knowledge she gained from swimming the Rottnest Channel Swim a few weeks prior to the event, the Rottnest Channel Swim was also her first solo attempt at the event.
“I couldn’t believe that I’d made the distance let alone win,” she said.
“I was more focused on the process than the result.
“There is so much you can’t control so I look at the things I can like maximum effort.”
Weller’s support crew was made up of Peel Aquatic Club members with
Christopher Evans kayaked the whole event while Grace Walton was on the support boat helping with food intake.
“They were great,” she said.
Weller said she would now focus on recovering with next year’s National a focus.
