A FREDERICK Irwin Anglican School student had her first national golfing win at the South Australian Girls’ Junior Golf Masters at the beginning of this year.
Year 10 student Kathryn Norris had another win at a competition this month making her the number one Western Australian junior girl, and number three in the state female open age in WA.
She also ranks as the twelfth junior girl nationally.
Kathryn said the competition courses were tough and she had to be smart on the green to win.
“I had to be careful of how hard I hit the ball and of some of the slopes,” she said.
Living across the road from The Cut golf course in Dawesville Kathryn was destined for a life on the green.
Her passion for golf started as a six-year-old when her dad introduced her to the sport.
“The Cut was the first place I played,” she said.
“It’s a challenging course but it was good because all of the members were really supportive.”
Kathryn is training as part of the State Junior Girls’ and Ladies’ Squad and has recently been announced as a member of the 2016 WA State Women’s Team and 2016 WA State Girls Team.
The Women’s Interstate Series will take place at the Royal Queensland Golf Club from May 10 to 12.
