ALDGATE Street residents say they are “bearing the brunt” of City developments.
With continuous traffic using their road they worry it will only get worse.
City of Mandurah deputy mayor Darren Lee and Mandurah MLA David Templeman listened to residents voice their concerns at a meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
Former City of Mandurah chief and Aldgate resident of 53 years Ken Donohoe said what was once a small residential street had turned into a hoon way.
“We need to address the issue before Aldi opens and the Mandurah forum redevelopment car park is developed,” he said.
Aldgate Street has more than 40 residential properties plus a day care centre and doctors surgery.
Aldi is being developed on the corner of Aldgate and Anstruther Road and a 201 bay car park has been approved by council for the corner of Aldgate and Dower Street.
This will see large developments at both ends of Aldgate street.
Aldgate Street resident David Tonnet said it was already impossible to back out of his drive way and with two traffic deaths over the years he said something needed to be done.
Mr Lee had hoped City engineers could make the gathering on Tuesday and said he would organise a meeting in the hope they could work out a solution to residents traffic concerns.
The residents were happy with this response and hoped the issue could be fixed before the City's developments were in use.
Mr Templeman said a clear traffic management strategy needed to be urgently progressed and aimed at calming traffic speeds.
“If council has a plan for managing traffic they need to consult with the residents and explain how their interests and concerns will be met,” he said.
