A Coodanup resident who's had enough of noisy airboats - also known as fan boats - has penned a strongly worded letter referring to drivers of such boats as "cretins".
Angela Smith has drawn attention to the boats, which are popular in the US, and complained about their noise and potential to hurt the Peel Harvey estuary environment.
"Why is the word respect so difficult for so many to grasp?" she wrote.
"Are there really so many delinquent morons in our midst? And, if so, how one earth did their collective fathers' sperm manage to be the strongest swimmers - when they have zero concern for an aquatic environment?
"Mandurah wouldn’t be Mandurah without the Peel/Harvey Estuary and associated wetlands. T
"Thousands of waterbirds travel halfway around the world to feed and breed here, and hundreds of birders come to watch and photograph them. Moreover, crabbing draws hoards of tourists – including those without boats who can wade out into the shallows that extend for kilometres from the Coodanup foreshore.
"But, that is all being put in jeopardy - because dickheads have found new toys with which to trash the place.
"I don’t even know if they are legal, but I do know that the Florida everglades have had the good sense to ban them.
"I am talking about airboats – and maybe that is where these are coming from (banned in America, so being sold off cheaply here on ebay).
"Noisier than jet skis; they sound like a helicopter landing on your doorstep.
"This morning, three of them deliberately screamed up and down the Coodanup foreshore - scattering masses of birds from their feeding grounds, and trampling the fragile coastal samphire.
"These monstrous machines have no place in our Ramsar-listed wetlands – and neither do the cretins who drive them.
"If you don’t like the beauty and tranquillity of our water park, then sod off."
